Paul Dudley Korf, 81, of Burlington died at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born June 9, 1928, he was the son of John Paul “Pug” and Martha Nordstrom Korf. On August 27, 1949, he married Anita Eden in Lake Lillian, Minnesota. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1985. On November 15, 1986, he married Beverly Bennett Foster in Burlington. She also preceded him in death on April 3, 1994. His friendship with Marcia Lohmann began in 1995 and they remained inseparable from that time on.
Mr. Korf was a 1945 graduate of Mediapolis High School and attended Iowa State College for two years. He was employed at the Des Moines County Engineer’s Office from 1947 until 1993. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving three years sea duty aboard a destroyer as a gunfire control technician operating in the western Pacific.
Mr. Korf was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, American Legion, Forty and Eight and sang for decades for Messiah Lutheran Church Choir and Bel Canto Chorale. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America for many years and served on the board of Christian Action Housing Organization.
Survivors include devoted companion, Marcia Lohmann of Burlington; two sons, Robert Korf of Burlington and Michael (Vicky) Korf of Ames; one daughter, Kristina (Mark) Weak of Cedar Falls; two stepsons, David (Chris) Foster of Mt. Pleasant and Michael (Maryann) Foster of Davenport; one stepdaughter, Laura (Mark) McBride of Des Moines; one brother, Bill Korf of Iowa City; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and six step grandchildren. He was “Grandpa Dudley” to Marcia’s grandchildren as well.
Besides both wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Phillip Korf; and two children in infancy, David Korf and Stephen Korf.
The memorial funeral service for Mr. Korf will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 27th, in Messiah Lutheran Church. The Rev. Susanne Smith will officiate. Music will be provided by Bel Canto Chorale.
