About Elma Roll...
Elma Roll was born in Clark County, IA (Weldon, IA) on September 11, 1910, to Andrew Clayton and Zella (Smith) Harless. Her father died in 1915 and the family moved to Rock Valley, Iowa. In 1918, she moved to Bingham Lake, MN with her family and was adopted by her stepfather, Peter Van Horssen. She received her education in Bingham Lake.On June 11, 1929, Elma was united in marriage to Henry Roll. The ceremony took place at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Windom and was performed by Reverend W.J. Lowrie. This marriage was blessed with four sons and one daughter.
Elma loved to read and her home and family were her main interests in life.
On Thursday morning, September 18, 2008, Elma passed away at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the wonderful age of 98.
She is survived by five children, Kenneth Roll and Carole Krueger of Jeffers, JoAnn Roll Mitchell of Fairmont, Richard Roll and wife, LaVonne, of Lake Crystal, Stanley Roll and wife, Delores, of Park Rapids, and Lawrence Roll of Lucann; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Roll of Windom; one sister-in-law, Terena Bottema of Bingham Lake; one brother-in-law, John Roll of Windom; and several nieces and nephews.
Elma is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Henry Roll.
