About Arthur "WELDON" Walsh...

Arthur Weldon Walsh age 92, of Ames died July 18, 2010 of congestive heart failure at Northcrest Health Care Center in Ames. Memorial service is being planned at a later date at St. John’s by the Campus Episcopal Church in Ames.

Weldon was born June 12, 1918 the son of Burt and Gladys Walsh in Mina, Nevada where he spent his childhood and teen years. He graduated from Mineral County High School at Hawthorne in 1935. He graduated from UCLA with a degree in Political Science in 1940. He received his Masters Degree from Drake University along with advanced studies from USC.

His early career included teaching high school and junior college in Burlington, IA. Her served many years on the Iowa Board of Regents staff and later in the president’s office at Iowa State University until his retirement in 1988.

A life-long Episcopalian he was a member of St. John’s by the Campus where he served on the vestry.

He was an avid reader and active in many civic and political positions throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife Jean of 69 years, a classmate at UCLA, and two children Daniel Walsh of Omaha, NE and Barbara Walsh Watts of Springfield, VA, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
